A higher order of quality

This QCTP adds weight (a good thing!) to the top slide of the PD230 lathe and obviously, allows you to have two tools ready for use on the lathe at any time. Amazon should update their product photo of this item though, since while in general appearance it is the same, the height adjustment wheel/mechanism is actually like the one on the (much) more expensive PD400 lathe. This is a heavy steel quality machined item which allows precise height adjustment of the cutting tool and the slots on the tool holder are large enough to accomodate tooling of greater thickness than the 8mm standard which the lathe normally uses. The unit slides right on to replace the standard tool holder that comes with the lathe and allows for a good range of tool movement- it is finely made and should easily retain its accurate qualities and outlast its user. While the price might seem steep, it is really not. If you compare it to the QCTP put out by and for the company that makes that well-known aluminum lathe (and their top slide costs extra and does not come with their lathe) , you will see that theirs is twice the price of this high quality tool post. Yes, theirs comes with three tool holders as opposed to Proxxon's two, but another tool holder from Proxxon will only set you back $28. or so. I am very pleased with my purchase of this tool post as it only adds value and versatility to an already well made lathe.
