Nice Table But.... Read More
By Fred Williamson
I purchased a new TIG welder and wanted a portable table. This one received good reviews elsewhere so I bought it. Generally, it's a well-made product and well thought through. It folds more or less flat and is easy to move around. The adjustments are easy to use and lock in very solidly. Okay - so far, so good. The problem I found was with the guiderails - they pop up on the side and front so you can square your work. These are very useful, but one of them was improperly manufactured (the guide slot was 1/4" out of alignment) making the guiderail impossible to mount on the bench. I can modify the part, sure; but the simpler solution is to simply call the manufacturer, let them know they have a manufacturing problem they need to correct and have them send me the right part. Problem #2 - no luck getting anyone there to respond to repeated e-mails and phone calls. Don't ask me why a company goes through the trouble to design and manufacture a decent product then fall flat on their face when it comes to correcting problems - this should be a trivial fix. Bottom line - if you buy this you'll get a good product, but if you encounter a problem you're on your own!UPDATE: Credit to teh manufacturer for addressing their shortfalls with this product. They contacted to let me know they had a subcontractor produce a bad batch of parts. They offered to replace the part or the table. I had already modified the table to make it work so they sent me a set of expensive welding clamps in compensation. So they made everything right in the end. I've used the table a lot and it's a very good design overall. The table has now been heavily used and performed very well. I've upgrade my review to 4 stars!

Somebody did their homework
By E. Redifer
This thing is great. They have some smart folks designing this strong hand stuff.I couldn't decide if I wanted to spend the money on a folding welding table - I thought about it for a couple months before pulling the trigger. I had been using an old workmate with a piece of steel on top - this is way better. I got this a few days ago and worked my first project on it over the weekend. It won't be long before I buy a second. It requires a bit of assembly - I always cringe when I open a box and see a bunch of parts and a bag of bolts. But this went together in less than 20 minutes, so it wasn't bad.So what do I like about it: First, it's pretty sturdy - could probably hold a couple hundred pounds easy. The slots in the top make it easy to clamp - although I'm now going to have to upgrade my clamps (I'm going to try strong hands there too). The top tilts easily 45degrees and 90 degrees and locks down tight. The top adjusts up and down with hitch pins, but locks down solid. At the edges, on two sides there are adjustable "edge curtains" - not sure what to call them, but they would hold a weld-up at 90degrees and you can clamp to them - however they quickly release so you can get them out of the way. It folds up and has wheels so it's easy to move around.Anything I don't like: Not yet. The top was a bit thinner than I expected, but it does have the 90 degree reinforcement "stringers" running along the edge of the slots. It did fine on my project, and if it were much thicker, the whole device would get pretty heavy. For me, an occasional hobby welder it works great. Heck if you are a pro mobile welder, I could see a place for one of these on your truck.

Very good. Almost perfect.

I'm probably being overly critical by giving only four stars, but I do want to mention that there is a compromise in the design. If you are hoping to find something that "locks down" as the previous reviewer said, this may not be it. Don't get me wrong, I think the table is great, but, in order to get this much adjust-ability in a light-weight, easily portable tool, they relied upon a design that requires the table to settle under the weight of your workpiece. Again, this probably won't be an issue in most cases, but, there is enough slop in the adjustments that, if you tighten everything down, and then set something heavy on the table, the top will move about an inch or more as it takes up the slop. So, expect unexpected shifting when using this table. On the other hand, two of these tables, used like saw-horses, wouldn't have the shifting problem. Of course, using them that way renders the tilting feature superfluous. And, again, it's not like the thing is going to fall over. It's just shifting to take up the slop inherent in the design of the height adjustment, and the tilting adjustment, combined. That said, I wouldn't stand on it, nor would I let a heavy object drop from my hands onto the top because I suspect a sudden jar (dropping a 20 lb object on the top), or a shift of a very heavy weight (like a person using it as a step stool) could cause the 1/8" wide "ledge" on the adjusting mechanism to jump out of the detent if the plastic handle were not fully tightened. So, I'm sure I will use this a lot, but, while it may be possible to set 350 lbs on it without it collapsing, I would advise being cautious with anything you need to shift around while working.
