A decent figure for the obscure collector, although not entirely consistent
By Tri Cao Nguyen
Cover Girl Feane is an obscure reference to a Japanese magazine "Comic Unreal Volume 6". In essence she is the cover girl on this particular issue, and for whatever reason struck a fancy with a popular sculptor who decided to cast her into a figurine. As in my other review for another anime figurine, because this model is more obscure and not easily as available, I'll spare the lengthy intro for those not familiar with the hobby as I can only assume you're in "the know" if you're looking here. Now with other reviews out there for this model, I'll get past the obvious that it does look good. But it doesn't look "great". The reason being is that the model is somewhat inconsistent. From the boot up Feane is drop dead gorgeous (in a design point of view) because it is very intricately modeled, and the details and coloring job just scream at you. The sword, the hips, the stockings and the overall curvature of the body make it a real treat. Her single leg stance is very striking against her twisted torso, so it gives it an effect of someone posing. Many models rely on the character simply standing in a proactive pose, or simply laying down which doesn't have such a dramatic effect. Now comes the torso part, and things I have a beef with. Feane comes with interchangeable chest clothing (which is basically a translucent version of the red top) that attaches to model by slot and peg format. Both her original red and the translucent use a "peg and hole" design. This design choice means that model has a broad apparent line shown on her chest if the clothing is not properly put into the slot, and really detracts from the piece. The clothing is also very small, very flimsy. Now usually that's a good thing (Insert sexist joke here), but not in this case, because the top is actually in two pieces. Because of this, it is very easy to warp the top if you're not very careful, and even when you do put them on Feane, you have to make some adjustments to give it the illusion it is one complete top.All in all, the chest looks "tacky" and something you would find in an action figure or garage model than a ready made pre-paint. And even in higher quality garage kits, the joints are usually well hidden and deep.Moving onto her head, you have your standard anime waving hair which does look nice, and is a tad on the simple side with just one color. (No highlights or gradient shading) It works though, and is a nice contrast to the figure's predominately red design. The sword and scabbard are functional, in that you can actually remove the sword from the scabbard. It isn't just a sword and scabbard object melded into one; it is two pieces which is a very nice touch. Unfortunately Feane can't hold her sword in any way, since both of her hands are basically in awkward positions. (One of them is tugging on her top down, provocative or trying to cover up, you decide)All in all Feane is a good figure and definitely nice to look at. She is a bit small for a 1/6 scale model (about an inch shorter than most) but maybe her massive hips and awkward stance give that illusion. If it weren't for chest / top piece, I would have really given this figure the full 5 stars. I also find the purple display base kind of cheap (thin), but that's just a caveat. If you can find Feane around, she definitely gets my recommendation.
