Good, just be careful with the lens

I have this watch for about 4 years now. here is my summary.A. Usefulness: I bought this watch mainly because it has a moon age feature, which is very important for me for two reasons: (1) some times I need to know what is the phase of the moon on a certain date, months ahead. I need this for military use, but it is useful as well for planning a trip, sailing, etc. (2) The moon age is important for Jewish observance, for it is actually the Jewish date (the Hebrew calendar is lunar). You do need to round the readings, e.g. 23.4 is the 23rd, 24.6 is the 25th, etc.The "compass" bezel is of no use - there's no compass here. There is a thermometer though, which will only give an accurate reading if you place it away off your body for several minuets. It can show a graph of temperature changes for the last few hours (I use this mainly to recall when I left home - you can see the temperature drops down about this time). If you're a hunter/fisherman/Wildlife photographer - you may use the hunting advisor. I heard it really works.B. Watch body: The watch itself is rugged. One con you should know about is the lens. It is a very thick glass (3mm I think), which apparently is a positive point, only it's elevated above the watch surface. It means that if you're not careful enough you may clash the watch with something and break the glass - like I did. I had it replaced, only this time I put a 2.5mm glass. This way the glass is sunken below the metal level, and protected by it. Otherwise the watch is rugged and nice.C. Visibility: It's an opposite display (white on black), as you see in the picture. But unlike the picture, in reality the numerals are much less contrasted with the backgournd. You will find yourself watching the hands instead of the digits, or using the back light each time even in broad daylight. Yet, battery life will take that for a couple of years. My battery was dead after 4 years, and I use the back light a lot. *There is an identical model with black on white numerals.To sum up: In my opinion it's actually a four star product *in absolute terms* - which makes it a 5 star, considering the price.Enjoy.

Better than the product description

Pros: Watch doesn't look as "digital" as it appears in the pictures, and the brushed stainless makes it look a bit more expensive than it is. it looks shiny in the picture, it's not. Although there are a LOT of functions which are included with this model, the manual does a good job explaining how to get to each one, and how to corectly set everything up. The digital date, time, etc. aren't readable from most angles except when tilting the watch toward you, but i actaully believe that is a positive becuase it keeps the watch from looking like a cheap throwback to the 80s. To everyone viewing the time it just appears to be an analog watch with a design on the face. The backlight for the watch makes it very easy to get the time in a completely dark area where you wouldn't normally be able to see an analog watch.Cons: Glass is flush with the top of the watch, so bumping anything is going to result in a scratch. The temperature is essentially useless, and even after reading the instructions, i'm not sure i would ever use the hunting indicator. The band is not really tight, and on a few occurances has pulled at my arm, but it isn't frequent and easy to ignore. Adjusting the watch band is not easy, but someone uploaded a youtube video which explains the process well. Search google for "adjusting a casio watch band".

Don't leave home without it!

almostI highly recommend The Tilley Hat. I got the T3 model and love it.Living in the South and being mostly bald a good hat is a survival tool for Me, not a fashion accessory. I have worn several types of hats and caps with varying results. "Breezer" hats don't work in the southern sun, Your head will burn through the mesh. Of course caps do nothing for your neck or ears.I had seen the Tilley line of hats before and thought I would like one but they are a bit pricey so I put off buying one. Then I received a Gift card and decided to go for it. Money well spent. If anything happens to this one I won't hesitate to buy another. I've worn it for a month now and its just getting broken in. I wear it for gardening, yard work and general loafing about. (I'm retired so I do a fair amount of loafing about). I was in the rain today so I can say it's a good all weather hat.When I removed it from the shipping box it was a bit squashed and the brim was out of shape. Following the manufacturers recommendation I wet the brim with warm water and shaped it like I wanted it and in a few hours it was ready to go. When ordering get the cloth tape measure out of the wife's sewing basket and follow the manufacturers sizing instructions. A properly fitting hat is a joy to wear,an ill fitting hat is like a blister on your foot, it'll ruin your whole day.Once you wear a well made, well fitting hat you will ever again look atthese one size fits all clown hats with the elastic sweat band.*** Update: This is now April 2012 I have been wearing this hat for almost four years now and I still like it a lot. I've washed it in the clothes washer many times now and that works real well. It'll come out all out of shape but ironing the brim flat on an ironing board then stuffing the crown with a towel rolled up till it's shaped then let it dry works well. When dry stretch over your knee till it fits good and your ready to go. Other than a couple stains that won't come out its still in excellent condition.

Great Hat!

This is a great hat. It fits well and provides much shade. Having battled skin cancer this summer, I now know that the sun is not my friend. Apparently, sun block alone won't protect you. This hat, in addition to sun block, should help it from recurring, I hope. If you buy this hat, make sure you get the correct size. You should be able to put two fingers between the hat and your forehead. When properly fitted, it is very comfortable. I plan to wear the hat on a cruise later this fall. The lace ties should help me from losing it in the strong ocean breezes. If it blows away, the hat comes with a great guarantee, if the manufacture honors it.

Best hat I've owned.

Being a fair-skinned biker, I was on the search for something to give my slowly receding hairline some cover during the non-helmeted times that would also go with my style (hereby referred to as "College Pseudo-Hippy").The hat is, as advertised, surprisingly well made. I've owned the odd hat here and there, baseball and a fishing hat at one point, but nothing this well crafted. It's a bit surprising, and I can certainly see how they make the claim against damage for as long as you own the product. It's very solidly built.It takes back it's natural shape rather easily as well, though I like the lip at the front pointed a bit down just for the suave look. This particular hat is somewhere between "archaeologist" and "Indiana Jones" in looks, and fits me well. Nothing about it seems particularly silly or frivolous, and walks the fine line between a serious work-hat and a casually acceptable hat rather confidently.The shoelace-like strands keep it on your head, and you can pull it out and wear the hat on your back (which is what I do while riding with the helmet on), or any other myriad uses.The secret pocket is ingenious, the glasses holder I've yet to use (though I can imagine a dozen other uses for it as well), and the buttons hold the rim firm to the side of the hat when needed.It's surprisingly light (if you've measured your head correctly), and I wear it for hours without the least bit of fatigue. It also breathes rather well, surprisingly enough, and while it will eventually start to feel a bit heavier after some decent work/exercise, it's washable.Really, the only Con I can spy is the price, but seeing as how it's construction is so solid, and I've been wearing it day in and day out almost since I've received it, it was definitely worth it.

Fun, Quality Toy

We got this for our nine year-old daughter, who has been into the Oregon Trail lately. I expected the quality to be good, and was not disappointed. In fact, the toy was better than described on the website - it has many removable parts such as the wagon cover, the barrel, the barrel lid, a storage compartment (the compartments open too), the seat, and all of the items on the horse, as well as those items connecting them to the wagon. The Polly Pocket dolls at our house have become westward-traveling pioneers, as they somewhat fit the wagon :) This toy has already seen a lot of play.

My grandson loved this toy. He plays with it everyday. It is very authentic and typical Schleich quality. Wheels turn smoothly. The first thing my grandson did was unhitch the horses. I put the harnesses away until he gets older.

Our family is preparing for a big family reunion in 2009. Our theme will be around the Lewis andClark expedition and the Oregon trail. I was looking mainly for a display item.When the covered wagon with horses arrived I was thrilled by the detail and the workmanship.After the reunion who knows, I may give it to my grandson to play with. Tilley Airflow - Staying on my head

After a visit or two to the dermatologist where I had some "suspicious skin cells" removed from my upper back, it was time to change my methods of sun protection. I have been wearing a baseball type cap since 1988 when I play golf or go to the beach but wanted to go to a hat with a full brim.I decided to try a Tilley hat after doing some research about hats on the internet. I choose to go with the model number LTM5 Airflow Cooler Hat. It is made out of nylon and has a vented area around the top of the crown. I have been wearing it to play golf for about 6 rounds now as well as when I take the dog for a walk around noontime each day.The LTM5 works as advertised. It provides 100% UV protection. The brim provides enough shade for the face, ears and back of the neck. While the nylon material does not breath, the vent around the top of the crown does a good job of keeing the top of the head cool. However, my brow sweats a little more than with a cotton baseball cap.Waterproof is something that comes with the hat being made out of nylon. I have been caught out in the rain twice with the LTM5 and the rainwater litterally just rolled off the hat and my head stayed dry.After just little over one month I am sold on Tilley hats.

The perfect hat

The Tilly Airflo hat is the perfect all-purpose hat; it always looks good no matter how mashed and crunched in a suitcase (it springs right back) and itcontains a pocket for carrying identification and a little cash. It has adjustable strings for keeping it from flying away, and which tuck away when not needed. Also washable and quick drying. Get this: when/if it wears out, you can get a new one free if you register it. I have two and carry them everywhere. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

My hat is off, to this remarkable hat!

(Update... I bought this hat back in May 2011 and have worn it while working outside so much, it has become tattered, not the fault of the hat, but due to the nature of living on a farm. And I'm buying my second one 15 months later for "dress up" because I like this hat so much. I found I had to take a razor blade and cut the inside layer out of the roof to reduce the heat build-up. It made it much more comfortable on a humid summer day when I did. Below is my original review...)I ordered this hat, just a couple of days after having surgery to remove malignant melanoma. I've had basal cell and carcenoma skin cancer before, and now the deadliest version of skin cancer.The first scare I had with skin cancer prompted me to purchase a "sun hat" more than 12 years ago. I wore the hat often, but hated it. It was sized perfectly, but was uncomfortable, made my head sweat and it felt very hot... Since then, I've had several other hats and caps to block the sun, but nothing has been as comfortable to wear as my Tilley.I live in Central Texas and as I write this today, it is 101 degrees outside and very humid as the sun bears down. The Tilly effectively blocks the sun on my face and ears and I suspect my neck (not that I can see back there) but my neck remains rather cool. The venting in this hat allows the air to flow though it and this makes for great comfort. One problem however... this hat has a pocket in the top (inside) that has the instruction manual. Even if you remove the paper manual, the pocket acts as a piece of insulation and I found the top of my head (even in the shade) would get very warm. I suspect if they did away with this pocket which also has printing on it, the hat would be more comfortable to wear on warm, humid days.The hat is very lightweight and although at first I couldn't figure out how the hat stays attached to the head with the straps, I decided to read the "manual" (get that, a MANUAL for a hat) and it became clear how the straps worked. Once I attached the hat using the straps, it stayed on my head very well, even in winds gusting past 35 MPH.All of my previous sun hats or caps looked pretty odd, but the Tilley is so nice, I wear it when I'm out-and-about in public.Bottom line, it's VERY comfortable, VERY light on the head and on the hottest of days, I'm not sweating like a wildebeast in African. I'm probably going to buy a second one because I know I'll be getting this one dirty as I toil about outside on my farm.Those crazy Canadian neighbors of ours really made a great product and I'm DELIGHTED this hat didn't come from a factory in China!

Great so far

I went through 2 impellers on my last pump, worn out from clogging too many times (even when used with a skimmer). So far, it looks like this is the kind of pump I should have been using all along. No problems handling the type of debris in our pond. It pumps it up to the top of a waterfall where there is a settling/bio-filter tub, which is much easier to clean. The pump has only been running for a few weeks now, but no clogs so far. I could only go a few days before needing to clear the skimmer attached to the last pump and I would frequently have to back flush that system.

Have had the pump for a few months now and it is great. I do have to clean out leaves and pine needles out of the intake, but it is easier to do than other pumps I have had for my pond.

Rosewood Parlor Guitar

I have spent some time with this instrument (albeit from a different vendor) and think it is a professional-quality instrument for an intermediate instrument's price. It is especially well-suited for modern finger-style playing.The parlor guitar all but disappeared in the 1960s with the advent of popular folk music in club and concert venues. Most pro performers then preferred "dreadnaught" guitars for greater volume and projection in large, miked venues. The novice player looking to purchase a "better" guitar quite naturally followed the lead of his idols, not thinking about the more intimate settings in which they would perfom.Now the 0 guitar makes its return - the machine you see in photos of Robert Johnson and Charley Patton! The Blueridge BR-361 is offered in either mahogany or rosewood (my own preference). Lutherie and quality control are outstanding. The guitars project as well as the bigger boys, and their tone is woody and ringing.I'd never buy a guitar I couldn't play for a while, since individual instruments can vary niticeably. Look at the seller's return policy and factor in the cost of shipping if you're unhappy. Still, I expect most players who want a "guitar sound" will be highly pleased with the BR-361.

Every time I come back to gut strings (mostly for nostalgia), I'm reminded of why I went to Dominants in the first place back in 1985: they're simply a superior string, and in my experience with 6 instruments, including older Italian and English, contemporary American, and modern Italian, nothing lasts longer, or plays cleaner.But when I was offered a slightly-used set of Passiones by a colleague for only $30, I jumped on them after reading all the glowing reviews. At almost $90 per set, I probably never would have tried them.After a couple of weeks, I've taken them off for....Dominants. There is one ring of truth to the hype: Passiones do stay in tune significantly better than any other gut string I've tried, and I've tried all of them over the years. That's not to say they stay in tune like synthetics; they'll still need tiny tweaks. (I can't speak to the break-in process because mine were fairly well broken in already.)As far as sound, I found exactly the same problems as all the other gut strings: lack of clarity, and a general woofiness, especially in the 3rd position of the D string. Part of this is the silver D winding, which I've never liked on any string, including Dominants. In comparison, my aluminum Dominant is crystal-clear. While many people seem to like the overtones generated by gut (not "undertones," by the way, as another reviewer has called them), too many of the wrong overtones make for a muddy sound, and this is what I have found with Passiones. In my opinion, it's the fiddle that should generate the overtones, and the string shouldn't get in the way. That thick gut sound interferes with vibrato, trills, and double stops. Some people call them "rich" but I just call them muddy. It's a fine line, and I may well be more hypersensitive to clarity than others.An unusual aspect of Passione strings is the high tension. Unlike Eudoxas, these strings don't sink under your fingers, but feel much stiffer, and stiffer than Dominants. Although I haven't seen any technical information, it almost feels as if they've added something besides gut, like kevlar. The closest comparison I can make for the elasticity is with Helicores, which give to a certain point, and then stop giving under your fingers. Passiones do not have the same super-quick response as Eudoxas.Passiones may be worth their high price if they last twice as long, but I've never found the windings of Pirastro strings to be as well-engineered as Dominants, which rarely show separation. Remember Synoxas? They'd start to come apart as soon as you strung them up. While I've had 6 violins to try gut on, I'll admit that it's entirely possible I haven't had the right one for gut. I have tried instruments that responded favorably to gut, but they tend to be superior instruments (in other words, mega-bucks old Italian). Gut, in other words, tends to bring out the weaknesses of an instrument, and therefore demand a very clear and responsive one to begin with. If you have wolfs on your D and G, expect them to be worse with gut. There is something about the uniform rigidity of synthetics that seem to help minimize wolfs.In conclusion, I'd say if you have the money, try them, but don't expect miracles. If you must have gut, I'd recommend trying Kaplan Golden Spirals first, which are probably the best value. If you need absolute pitch steadiness, then go for Vision. Personally, I'll save my money and stick with Dominants.

Steer clear of the Passione!

I was very interested to try the Passione strings, as I had never used a gut string before, but was very familiar with the other strings by Pirastro. I've been using these strings on my Paul Claudot violin for a few months and am ready to get rid of the whole lot!The first problem is the break-in time. Pirastro does give you a heads-up that the gut strings take longer to settle down, but I found that the breakin time was excrutiatingly long. And even after a good week they still are not nearly as stable as Pirastro's other strings. I think that if you were in the middle of a long piece you would need to really worry about whether they are still in tune.My biggest problem is that they are not very responsive. They are extremely difficult to use. I can't describe it in anyother way besides saying that they seem "stiff". I've been working on a piece with a lot of multiple stops, and the strings just don't want to take it.And to be honest, I'm not overly crazy about the timbre of the strings, either. They aren't as bright and powerful as the Evah Pirazzis nor as warm and rich as the Obligatos.In the 15 years that I've played the violin, this is the first time that I've used a gut string, so I can't say how these compare to others. But I was very disappointed, and especially given the very high price.Pirastro is by far the best string company in the world, but I didn't find these to my liking. Pick up a set of Pirazzis or Obligatos. You'll save a few bucks and be much happier with the result.

The Greatest String Ever Made So Far -- Amazing

These strings have received rave reviews from violinist. Do a search and read for yourself. They are in a class of their own.Most gut strings are unstable but have more undertones. Synthetic strings are far more stable but do not have the full undertones of gut strings, although the better synthetic strings come close. The Pirasatro Passione strikes a compromise between the two. Passione strings are gut strings, but they are more stable than most gut strings. You get more undertones than synthetic stings without almost as good stability.Who should use these strings? Advanced violin players. Students probably should stick with the more affordable and time-tested Dominants (but with a different E string) or another synthetic string, such as Vision Solo or Larsen Tzigane. Evah Pirazzi strings are also excellent strings for advanced players, but their high tension make them unsuitable for most users and many violins. Ultimately, strings interact with the differing characteristics of violins, and different strings sound different on different violins. You have to experiment. If you are a student, maybe stick with Dominants (except the E) and then experiment once you advance.If you are looking for the best overall strings and are willing to pay more, because you are an advanced player, buy the Passione strings.

Be sure...

to attach a string from the wide-angle lense to the camera.Due to the lense blocking out the flash you will need to take the lense off frequently in order to take flash pictures. If you don't attach it to the camera it is fairly easy to re-mount it incorrectly and have it fall off.Fortunately someone else on my dive found mine and returned it.

Good add-on for the Mini II

This simple attachment makes it much easier to get clear closeup pictures underwater (on land, too). You need to follow the directions for success. For example, when using it underwater. it should be mounted on the camera while submerged to allow an incompressible layer of water between the two lenses. It's a little tricky getting it on and off with thick cold water mitts (like we use up here in New England), but I got the hang of it. Nice product!

I own and use this very bowling ball. I didn't purchase it personally, it was from the Star Wars Strike Force bowling league I was on. I was shocked to see how much it is worth. I love using it in open practice and competition. I bowl with Special Olympics Florida at AMF Bradenton Lanes. Handy borescope

I really wanted a borescope with a screen but the cameras and cable were too thick. My first use is to inspect the inside of the frame rails on an old Corvette which requires inserting probe into existing factory holes, some only 1/4-3/8". I played around with it in the garage and once I got the hang of adjusting the manual focus I think it will be just what I need. The light comes on and stays on with the button, no need to hold it on. For such a small unit it is pretty amazing and you can see quite good details. Another good thing is the AA battery power. Batteries available everywhere. Nice long hard case so you don't have to curl up the cable when storing. Made in Costa Rica. grk

Goes... some places

I work in the pest managment industry and often find myself trying to inspect hard to see places. I was excited to try out this affordable scope to go pest hunting. After some thought I picked this model over the larger DIA obiendient (stays in the shape that you bend it into) scope so that I could slip it into tighter places like pilot holes in dry wall, and grated floor drains without having to remove the cover. Unfortunately, this device does not have a flexible tip (I can't believe that this wasn't mentioned under product specs) the first 5 inches or so of the unit do not flex. So I'm out of luck for looking down drains or burrows that have a 90 degree bend in them--the scope just jams into the wall at the bend and can't flex around the corner. I'm sure that I will still find plenty of applications for this scope but so far I have met with failure trying to snake in into the tight voids that I've wanted to inspect. And the unit didn't come with an instruction booklet, so I'm not sure what kind of damage would occur if I forced the tip to bend, but I suspect that it would turn the unit into a very worthless rubber noodle with a non-functioning lens!

Nice borescope

I bought this to look inside a few engines has so far it has performed flawlessly. I could look at the cam lobes and cylinder walls with ease and the images were clear. I also like the case because the locking mechanisms for the case are not the cheap flaps that eventually rip off but slide mechanisms that seem sturdy and secure.

Cool 'Auto Light Switch' displays the time without the user fumbling to press a switch in the dark!

I bought the Gulfman for the 'Tide and Moon Phase' features. On the downside, the graph is tiny. In natural lighting however, it is easy to read. I don't have any problems since I mostly view the 'tide and moon phase' graph outdoors.This G-Shock has a list of gadgets that would make even MacGyver happy! I must admit, I'll hardly ever use most of them.The coolest feature of this Casio G-Shock Gulfman is the 'Auto Light Switch'. When this feature is turned on, the entire watch face illuminates automatically when you angle the watch towards your face. You can even adjust how long you want the light to stay on! This feature can be easily activated (and deactivated) by simply pressing the top right switch!Finally! A watch that can display the time without the user fumbling to press a switch in the dark!Another great feature of this G-Shock Gulfman is the lightweight, rust resistant, titanium casing. This watch is built tough just like the earlier G-Shock models. Being lighter, it is more comfortable than the older G-Shocks with heavier stainless steel casings.In addition to surf fishing, I wear the Casio G-Shock Gulfman while operating power tools.
