5awesome -- quieter than quiet
By Momterrific
This keyboard is truly about as close to "silent" as you could want with a mechanical keyboard. There is a little muffled clicking sound, but no "clatter" and you have to be trying hard to get much noise by "banging" these keys. We are using it for an experiment that uses voice recognition software. The system hears the clatter of a regular keyboard, but not this one. The keys are very responsive, although it takes a minute to get used to the low profile keys. The clicking and motor feedback of the keys is probably helpful in making it easier to adapt to the new feel. In my opinion, while a touchscreen keyboard may be truly silent, it is harder to adapt to because you get only visual feedback while typing.

3Self Standing Baby/Dog Gate
By Kimberly Kowalski
When it arrived a piece was broken...which I fixed. No biggy! It is very nice looking gate, however to keep my dogs (a mix and a dalmatian) on one side and my 1 year old on the other...not so much. The dogs do great. The low height makes it nice to hop over so I don't have to open and close it. HOWEVER...my ONE year old figured out how to open it within a weeks time and when he stands at it it is a bit wobbly so I am always worried he will knock it over. I think it is a bit pricey for what it is. I would send it back but it the only gate I can find to span the large arch in our kitchen/living room area to keep my baby somewhat at bay. We are now trying to figure a way to make it so he can't open it.I would look for something else if you can and if you find it let me know. I need something to span 75"....it's hard to find!!!Kim

4Solid Ergonomic Stapler.
By M. Hernandez
I bought this tool to go w/ the Porta Nail Hammerhead hardwood nailer. It's worked extremely well every time I've used it and has yet to jam or meet the plank it couldn't penetrate. Bamboo flooring is tough material but this tool made short work of it more than once. The gripping surface has a rubber cover that provides excellent grip. The secondary trigger makes it way more comfortable to work with than most other flooring staplers on the market. The kit includes a tough plastic case with room for gloves, goggles etc. It's a pricy tool but quality isn't cheap and appears to be a tool that will last a lifetime. Hope this helps.

44 and a half stars
By Scout
I bought this flooring stapler for a vertical application of tongue and groove solid wood flooring. I will also be installing wood ceilings with this tool. So far I've shot exactly one stick of staples so if my opinion changes I'll update this. First, this is a nifty little tool. Lightweight with several extras. It has onboard storage for an allen wrench, a window in the slide to check low staples, tool-free foot adjustment and, of course, two triggers. For once, the directions were simple and didn't appear to be translated from some other language. I have to say the foot adjustment was very fussy to begin with, and I didn't realize how much it adjusted at first because it was so stiff. After just wiggling it around for a few minutes it all worked very smoothly. This tool does like to be set 'in the slot' before it will shoot the staple in but when it's good, it's alllll good. My experience probably would have been better sooner if I was shooting on a floor but walls and ceilings present a different challenge. I bought a flooring hammer and the recommended set tool at the same time and I highly recommend both of them. In fact, the tool would have gone down in stars if I hadn't bought the accessories. On the down side, I also bought a box of staples because the tool came with exactly ZERO staples. C'mon Porta-Nails, a small box of staples with the tool would have killed you? Really? It did come with a small bottle of oil which was nice (and I won't think the ungrateful thought that they did that so people wouldn't return a tool destroyed by dry firing). In terms of use, this tool fit my medium-sized hand (woman), it was easy to handle, and both the triggers were handy to use. I mostly used the front trigger on this application but I can see where the back trigger is very handy to have at times. Bottom line, I am happy with this tool and if it were lost or stolen I would buy another one.August 14, 2011 - Have used this stapler for several sticks of staples now. Update on my review. The staples tend to squirrel up when encountering anything hard. Since they're being driven into wood, you can appreciate that this is a problem that occurs often. I still like the stapler for the vertical and overhead applications I'm using it for, but, I would not use this for traditional flooring on a floor. I have had to stop and adjust the foot because the surface changed or the thickness of the flooring changed slightly. As I said before, this is a very fussy tool. At times it runs smoothly, driving in staple after staple. At other times I pull out as many as I put in. Because the gun runs smoothly I tend to think it's the staples (Porta-Nails 20 gague). I'm currently looking for some other brand of staples. Although I still like this tool, this is my first and last Porta-Nails product. Sorry Porta-Nails, you just didn't make the grade.

5After 440 sq ft of engineered flooring..........
By J. Eaton
Solid performer. No jams. The staples will buckle if you hit a knot in the flooring, but that's life and flooring type dependent. In my opinion, I'm very happy with the tool and have since purchased a model 640 15-gauge finish nailer based on this initial experience.

3NOT a spinning pole
By Hedera Femme
Before you buy, be aware this is NOT a spinning pole. It is a stationary pole. I did not know this when I purchased it (it's not really mentioned here), so it was rather expensive to swap out for the pole I actually wanted (due to shipping). In good news, X-pole makes good poles. The design is sturdy, does not take a large amount of space, and is fairly easy to put together. You might need a little help lifting it up in the end, just to be safe, but otherwise, any lady could assemble this easily. It took me about half an hour.In bad news, this surface is Extremely Slippery. Even with "Mighty Grip" or "Dry Hands", you tend to slide off after a short amount of climbing/doing tricks.Stationary vs Spinning:If you are an awesome gymnast, capable of untold feats on the pole, or if you don't mind looking completely stupid, stationary is fine. What do I mean? Well, with a spinning pole, even simple things most people can do look pretty neat, just because you are spinning at the same time. It's a pleasant distraction that tricks your audience (even if the audience is just you or some girlfriends) into thinking "wow, that looks neat". On the other hand, when the pole does not spin, everything looks a little less glamorous and interesting, so unless you can bust out some crazy moves and have the flexibility of saltwater taffy, you just won't look good. Trust me. We had a party, and none of my friends felt great about how things went, and half of us are either dancers or gymnasts. Moral of the story: if you are going to spend money on a good pole, like an X-Pole, go ahead and get a spinning one; otherwise, just get one of those crappy cheap ones.I recommend the Xpert 50 mm Titanium Gold. It spins and has a slightly less slippery surface, and the thicker pole (as opposed to 45mm) makes it easier to grip with your legs, so you can do more climbs and hang on with your body. It's $100 more, but well worth it,More good news: Microfiber Products Online has EXCELLENT customer service. Great communication, solid sales team! Buy with confidence!

2Disappointing
By D. Diskin
I received this remote control tonight with very high hopes, especially because of the very high price tag. Still, I am a professional trainer and I can justify the expense if the product is worth it.So far, without even using it for more than a few minutes, I have these disappointments with this device:1) The programmable dongle cannot be set to press the "Enter" key or the "Control" key. While there are a ton of keys it can press, Enter is not one of them. And while I can press the Control key in combination with many other keys, it appears that Control alone does not work. This feature is the main reason I purchased this remote control. You may find that your needs for a programmable control are also not met.2) The wireless dongle does not store in the remote. Other products 1/3rd the price of yours allow the presenter to place the dongle inside the remote when not in use. I am worried that the dongle will be easily lost or damaged if allowed to float around my notebook bag.3) There is no on/off switch to prevent "accidental clicks" while not in use. Again, other devices 1/3rd the price have a simple on/off switch. I am worried that I will begin a meeting and find the batteries have drained because the laser pointer was on all night long.4) Their website which claims to offer online support via email and chat had broken links when I visited it tonight. And their FAQs don't even mention the Jade product. On the plus side:1) Green pointer is WAY bright.2) The device, while larger than most presenter remotes, does feel good in the hand. The AA batteries make it slightly heavy, though.3) The 360 mouse works quite nicely, possibly the best I've used. This is the remote's strongest point.I have emailed them to ask about programmable issue, and if they respond favorably I will update this review. But I have a feeling I will be returning it shortly.[Update] They never responded to my email, but I did call them. Their support was quick to answer and friendly, but they still could not solve the problem I identified above (#1). They agreed it was a bug, but it has been two weeks and no fix yet.I've used the pointer in many sessions now, and it is just as good as the $60 device I was using before, but no better. The lack of flexible programming (see #1) means I won't be using this any more, sadly. I really hope they make a sequel to this device and take my feedback into account. It could be perfect.

4Superior in some respects
By Pawel Danielewicz
In my field, over 50% of presentations are delivered using formats and programs different from Powerpoint. With the manufacturers of presenters usually limiting their product description to a claim that their presenter allows for a problem-loss navigation within Powerpoint, the selection of a suitable presenter can become daunting. Different keycodes, associated with the buttons of a presenter, can achieve the same results within Powerpoint while producing no action whatsoever within other presentation programs. Since manufacturers are not explicit regarding what keycodes are produced, purchasing of a presenter becomes a pointless gamble. Surprisingly, simple 'PageDown' and 'PageUp' or 'ArrowUp' and 'ArrowDown' are often not the choices. While Windows may be the dominant system in my field, other systems are common. In a meeting, a variety of systems and presentation programs may be used and, for the sake of streamlining the meeting, a presenter should be interchangeable between different speakers.Under these circumstances, the Interlink Jade presenter with 4 programmable buttons, mouse function, bright green pointer, supposedly working with Windows and Apple, looked attractive. In practice, the presenter turned out to be indeed superior in some of its aspects, compared to other presenters in the market, but then also turned out to have some significant limitations as well. Thus, 4 buttons are programmable, using software that can be pulled from the manufacturer's site. The programming can be done only under Windows. There are several preset combinations to choose from and, in addition, you can assign keys to the buttons from a pull-down menu. The keys can be chosen with modifiers, such as 'ctrl' or 'alt'. However, only one key with a possible modifier can be assigned to a button, i.e. you cannot assign 'ABCD' to a button, but you can 'ctrl-A'. The Windows key is also included as a modifier. Unfortunately, your combinations cannot be stored on the disk for future recalls such as when quickly switching between programs. As you exit the setup program, your chosen assignments are downloaded onto the presenter's receiver and become active on that receiver after a while. The receiver can be then moved between different computers and remembers the assignments. The presenter-receiver combination works also on Linux, at least the 2 flavors thereof that have been tried. When a presenter button is pressed for a long time, the keycode programmed for the button is not reemitted. Thus, if you program 'Up' under a button, you need to press the button over and over to move over several lines. Two navigation buttons of the presenter, for moving forward and backward between slides under Powerpoint, have no effect under some programs and cannot be reprogrammed. The mouse functions are genuinely useful. I.e. you can actually move cursor across the screen and click on an item in a menus. It is relatively easy to avoid confusion between the navigation, mouse and programmable buttons. At its maximal brightness, the green pointer is well visible. However, if the voltage for the 2 batteries falls under 2.8 V, the pointer begins to exhibit a warm-up time. This is rather annoying as standard alkaline batteries may fall below that voltage after getting exhausted by just 20%. In fact, battery manufacturers claim battery capacity assuming the battery to be usable as long as its voltage is above 0.8 V, corresponding to 1.6 V for 2 batteries. The lower the voltage, the longer the initial warm-up time. The presenter may be, in fact, used with NiMH or NiCd batteries, but the pointer needs to be kept on for about 2 min for the beam to light up. After the diode apparently warms up, the beam lights up right away during subsequent uses of the pointer during the talk. In any case, the unregulated pointer is a shame in a device that lists for $199.The presenter lacks an on-off switch, which means that the batteries will get drained when the pointer button gets depressed in storage or transport. I solved that by slipping a piece of cloth into the battery compartment for transport, blocking battery contact. Opening and closing the battery cover, though, will break it eventually. The presenter comes without a pouch and the receiver cannot be stored inside the presenter. I found that typical Asian pencil pouches have about the right size to accommodate the presenter, receiver and a couple of batteries. The presenter is a bit bulky, but its other deficiencies, mentioned above, are more serious. I am keeping mine, because the benefits outweigh for me the deficiencies. However, if you want a usable mouse function and do not care about programmable buttons, because you stick with Powerpoint, go with the somewhat similar Keyspan Presentation Remote Pro that has an on-off switch and stores its receiver within the unit.UPDATE: (March 2011) The warm-up time turns out to be a real pain. After a relatively short time with a new set of batteries, the pointer needs to be kept on for a while ahead of a presentation, to become useful. (July '11) The solution to the problem of warm-up time, with batteries getting drained, is to use Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA/1.5V batteries Energizer Ultimate L91BP-4 Lithium AA Battery 4 Pack that apparently have an internal regulation. (Dec '11) If anyone were to go down that path, slide switches that can be fitted into the case, to provide the power on-off function, include Mountain Switch 103-5000-EV and C&K TS01CBE.Pros:4 programmable buttonsusable mouse functionsbright green pointerworks with Windows, Apple and Linux computersCons:2 nonprogrammable navigation buttons tied to Powerpointprogrammable only under Windowslack of power on/off switchlack of pouch and of storage of receiver inside the presenterwarm-up time for the pointer

5Oustanding performance; a bit large in the hand.
By Ian Ivey
This is the most reliable, most functional remote I've used.I've owned two other presentation remotes from Interlink/SMK -- one from Logitech, and one from Kensington -- and have used countless others. The one thing a presenter needs to *know* is that the slide will advance when he clicks the button. No matter where you are in the room, how far away you get, or what stands between you and the USB receiver, this remote just works. What a delightful relief.Other Interlink remotes I've owned (particularly the Interlink RemotePoint 4300 series) have proven nearly as reliable. But this Jade remote never failed to respond -- not one time. I therefore recommend Interlink equipment because their remotes have consistently outperformed those of other brands, in my experience.Discussion of features:The unit is called the "Jade" because it comes equipped with a green laser. I rarely use a laser, but in those rare instances in which I do, the green laser is significantly easier for audience members to spot than are most red lasers. The eraser-head mouse controller is too slippery for easy use, and is too stiff (requiring too much pressure to move the mouse). Interlink has the right idea, but needs softer, stickier rubber, and should make the pointing stick easier to manipulate. This feature is not useless -- I was able to use it to navigate around a screen and click on objects -- but for much more than a quick mouse-over, you'll probably want to go back to the laptop itself. The 4-way button around the mouse activates the laser (up), advances slides (left and right), and now offers a right-click (down) option, which is handy. The four programmable buttons are a nice addition. They are firm enough that you will not accidentally activate them, and they provide clear tactile feedback. By default, the top one blanks the screen (and this feature works every time, unlike on other remotes, on which this feature seems to work when it's in the mood). I believe two others adjust volume by default. Programming is easy, and that programmability goes directly into the receiver. This means you don't have to install any software on other computers; you just pop the receiver into the USB port and off you go, with your custom functions. The unit is completely coated in the pleasing matte-black rubberish compound featured on many such devices over the past few years. It stays clean and doesn't seem to wear. Fit and finish are excellent -- the unit is hefty and feels of very high quality; buttons are solid and the battery cover feels tight.I do wish the remote was smaller. I'm a small guy, anyway, but this is the biggest remote I've used in a long time. If you really count on concealing your clicker, you may be happier with one of the smaller Interlink units. But I'm just so amazed by Jade's reliability that I wouldn't even consider switching even for a smaller unit. I've found the remote I'll use for at least the next couple of years.UPDATE, November 2010: after using the Jade for three years, I'm still delighted with it and have no need for a replacement. It continues to function reliably, on any computer. The buttons are still as firm as they were when it was new. Others who wished for a smaller size and an on/off switch are right -- those would be improvements. Perhaps some of SMK's newer remotes package this unit's performance, features, and solid construction in smaller sizes, so I would now recommend looking at newer units as well -- but I would still give this unit a strong recommendation.

5Excellent tool
By John A. Gallahar
I've been playing guitar and bass for almost 50 years. This product is just plain an excellent tool for figuring out bass parts and practicing bass. I recently had to learn the bass parts for a 40 minute set. The Tascam CD-BT2 made it so much easier. In my earlier days we had to learn the parts off the vinyl---which is not easy. I've seen reviews of this product which are so petty and uninformed I can't believe it. The fidelity of the unit when the song is slowed down is not as good as normal speed--but it's quite adequate and excellent for catching fast or tricky runs. The unit is also very easy to use. I've barely had to use the manual. I would advise that you purchase the power adaptor. Alkaline batteries last only about 5 hours.

5Awesome Little Toy!
By Bill McGuffey
I've read quite a few reviews complaining about not being able to completely separate the bass from the song, I really didn't expect to be able to do that. All my life I've learned bass lines from listening to the song over and over. After years of doing that, your ear automatically picks out the bass track. The main thing I bought this for was to slow the songs down a little and learn intricate riffs. Believe me, I have done exactly that. This toy has helped me learn bass lines that were very hard at normal speed, just by making a loop of the part I want to learn, slowing the tempo down (without changing the pitch) and practicing it over and over. I would highly recommend this to any bassist who has a little ear training and wants to keep improving.Unless you want to carry this around with you (along with a pocket full of batteries!)I strongly suggest you buy the power adapter.

5The Tascam Bass Trainer
By guitazzy
I wish that this had been available when I was learning as a kid. Since I never learned to read music I had to listen over and over again to albums and 45's, lifting that needle across that vinyl endlessly. This little piece of technology is great in that you can slow the piece down without changing the key. If there is a particular part of the song that you need to work on, you can make it loop over and over again until you get it. I highly recommend this product, and I give it a five star rating.

5Quiet
By Lorgan
Our original shutters were pretty old and rattled loudly while the fan was on. These a much quieter, both while the fan is running and also don't slam shut loudly. Very easy install as the originals were the same 30x30 size. My only complaint is I didn't replace them years earlier.

5excellent quality shutter
By Herb
Replaced shutter that came with my whole-house fan, after it came apart while the fan was on and badly damaged. This shutter is vastly better in all around quality. Shipped and arrived via Fed Ex (I paid no extra shipping, so was surprised) in 3-4 days. A little expensive perhaps, but now I feel it was well worth it, even though I had to re-size the hole for a 30x30 from the old 29x32 "oddball" size shutter!

5Amazing AV Control Center/Receiver
By J. Habers
I spent about a week researching various AV receivers in this price range. As the owner of a Sony Bravia HDTV I was partial to Sony due to the Bravia Theater Synch Technology feature in order to eliminate a handful of remotes. And in this regard this receiver does the job perfectly. I can control all of my TV functions via the remote. As I upgrade my DVD player I am confident that I will also be able to control this device via the Bravia Theater Synch. Although I was able to program all of the functions of my 2 year old non-HDMI DVD player with no problems. The only issue is with a Direct TV HD DVR in that neither my television nor this receiver utilizes a code set that allows the Sony Remote to work with the Direct TV DVR receiver. So at the very least I am now down to 2 remotes.I contacted Sony Tech Support and they were of no help. This is not a plug and play unit. You have to study the manual with care before even taking the unit out of the box. Do this and you will minimize frustrations with system setup, and be able to maximize your enjoyment of this piece of equipment.Once the system is set up the auto calibrate feature sets up the speaker system audio levels. After this step I tweaked the system by ear and the sound was awsome in all modes. The decoder automatically decodes incomming audio and displays the mode on the receiver screen. The system is provided with 3 HDMI inputs and one output for your TV as well as numerous other inputs (see specs) which if I were to fully utilize would allow me to quickly sink into a level of debt that would rival the national debt.I compared this receiver with several of the ES series receivers also by Sony and for the money difference this was the superior buy, based on the functionality that I was looking for.Sound on this system is truly awesome, you truly become part of the scene when watching a DVD. The audio whips around the room to the point where you actually twist your head expecting something to come at you from the side or from behind. The receiver runs relatively cool when compared to other units out there which in my mind as an electrical engineer is critical in that heat is the greatest enemy of electronic components. In my mind cool running electronics equals a long life.

5excellent product
By John G.
I've been upgrading my system. Started with Sony 60A3000(great tv). Next was Onkyo 605. A nice unit, popular, but I was not satisfied with performance at low and medium sound levels. Sounded "thin". Decided to try Sony 1100. A dramatic difference in my setup. Sound was more full and deeper at mid level. At higher levels it was very impressive. I use Top Gun dvd as one of my test dvds. Both the 605 and 1100 picked up the ratchet noise made by the sled in scene 1, but it was more distinct on the 1100. At mid level the 1100 was nicer to listen to, at high volume it was also more "full" sounding and working with less effort. Both process video from 1080i and lower up to 1080p if using hdmi. Again, video thru the 605 was impressive, but the 1100 was better-sharper, crisper and on the HD channels awesome. In my view, the Sony 1100 is worth the money, I noticed both audio and video improvements.btw-I upgraded my 8 yr old subwoofer and it was a dramatic improvement. I highly recommend using a quality sub.

5the perfect reciever for blu-ray and playsation 3
By R. L. Epps
after reading the reviews and specs i decided to make the plunge and pick up the str-dg1100. it's the least expensive sony reciever that can make the most of what the playstation 3 can put out via Blu-Ray at this time by being able to process uncompressed 8 channel LPCM over HDMI, 1080p @ 24Hz/fps video without a hitch, and self calibrate. the dg2100 is identical to the dg1100 but also does internal decoding of next gen Dolby True Hd and DTS HD Master audio. while that may be desireable to some, the playstation 3 internally decodes all audio codecs into lossless PCM but can't bitstream any audio codec out. because bitstreaming will only work on BluRay discs authored in basic and not in the advance mode the newer big release discs are being written in, the str-dg1100 makes the most sense.*the source switching times are 4 and 5 seconds, depending if you are going between analog or hdmi digital or not, not the long 10-15 seconds previously reported. given that it's actual HDMI signal processing and not pass through sampling this is expected. what's not expected is the nice fact the GUI only comes up as an overlay above analog video, but it cuts off digital signals to a black background for the GUI. upconversion, while good, won't make any jaws drop over what your name brand tv's internal scaler does for regular tv or what the ps3 does with dvd. the best part about the upconversion is all signals are upconverted with little to no resolution switching 'noise'. when my phillips 1080p tv does it, it's visually annoying and jarring and i even get the that audio level off/on 'snap', the dg1100 switching is fast and the visual noise seen is split second and soft like 'snow' with no audiable switching noise. my only qualm is the top row of pixels is scrambled on some 480i signals, but i blame my crappy scientific atlanta cable box more for that.the shipping was great, even on super saver shipping i ordered monday night and got it that friday.if you don't want or need to internally decode nex gen audio codecs, or put signals out to a second zone/room, i see no reason to go higher than this unit, the sound is awesome, the self calibration will have you hear things like never before, and you will feel like you finnaly are getting the FULL home theather experence.anything more for a playstation 3 user is likely overkill."update"the info i had on the str dg920 earlier was wrong. the new dg920 dosen't have truehd, dts hd ma, or the gui the dg1100 and up have. looks like the dg1100 is still the best value. imo"updated again for spelling and comprehension."* new update: due to the fact the ps3 is now able to decode DTS-HD, master audio and high resolution audio (firmware 2.30). loks like my gamble to wait was worth it. if you are using all sony than with the exception of the STR-DA3300ES for the automatic 5 year sony warrenty, there is little reason to spend more.

4Good product but tricky
By Dr. Jon
This is a higher quality unit that the vent i replaced. I had to replace my pervious unit after the people who sealed my attic also sealed the vent shut. The local utility contracts attic and house sealing as part of an energy conservation program, your tax dollars at work. I do not know what it will do for my heating bill but they did seal my attic vent closed.I had to do a lot of adaptation to get a good mount but this may be becuase the people who installed the last one did such a bad job. I had to make a frame and secure it in place and then attach teh vent to the new frame. I made the frame from 1/8" by 1" lath. The vent baldes are counterbalanced by a spring. The instruction specify that the spring be tensioned to just let the vent close. This is what ai did and in tests both sides closed relaibly. ON installation one sice stays open. Any touch will close them and if I push the vent open with a stick it always closes. Every time the fan wind opens it, it stays open. I suggest you be sure the closure is very secure. I only need it closed at the end of the season, so this issue a mild annoyanceOtherwise it's an excellent product.

For those that like a western look, this is the perfect handbag. Plus the hand crafted leather and cowhide make it look like a palmetto painted horse. Very soft with just the right touch of silver buckets and the shoulder strap makes it easy to carry even with your hands full. I just like the great quallity of this western look.
