Love this magic box

I love my Line 6 POD X3 Live Guitar Multi Effects Pedal. With this modern marvel, you should be able to achieve just about any tone you can imagine (the Line 6 website explains its capabilities in detail). With a little experimentation, you should be able to easily find your own unique tone.After a brief tutorial, and a few minutes with the included manual, it was easy for me to dial through the hundreds of amazing presets. While this device is quite easy to use right out of the box, it might take years to discover all of its capabilities. Mostly I am using the POD X3 Live to replace my existing effects pedals (distortion, chorus, flanger, delay, wah) for use with my Stratocaster. I doubt if I will ever use those pedals again. I am using the device plugged directly into the guitar input on my amplifier; it sounds great.I also appreciate the built-in tuner (which mutes while tuning, of course), the headphone jack, the microphone input, and the USB output (to use your computer for recording and mixing). Another great feature, is its ability for separate tone processing of the guitar and microphone (vocal) inputs.I would really love to have a comprehensive instructional DVD that explains how to setup the various "stomps" and "mods." The manufacturer (Line 6) does have many instructional videos posted on their channel on a popular video website; but it would be nice to have select instructional videos (on a DVD) shipped with the product.

Great Product---While it works...

I have owned my POD X3 Live for almost 2 and a half years, and I have been able to get some great tones out of it. Being able to take only my guitar and my pedal to gigs is invaluable. The pedal sounds great when plugged directly into the sound system. There are some great things about this pedal, and some very bad things about it. I'll do my best to help you see what I mean.-The presets are garbage. I have never performed with a single one of the pre-loaded tones on this board. It is possible to build some very nice sounding tones from scratch, but line 6 dropped the ball with the presets.-The pedal is relatively easy to use. If you know nothing about guitar effects pedals, it might take a little messing around with it, but you'll eventually get the hang of it. Once you know your way around, it's very easy to create and save custom tones, right on the board itself.-For the price, it's a pretty decent value. You could spend a lot more to get tone that sounds a little better, but the X3 Live sounds pretty darn good.---THIS IS THE PROBLEM with the X3 Live--- The physical construction of the unit feels very durable and virtually indestructible. In reality, there are many weak spots on the pedal board that will break VERY easily. The knobs are all anchored inside the board with hot glue. A month after I got my X3 Live I noticed a rattling sound inside. Last month when the "select/save" button broke loose from inside the board, the technician opened it up to find several chunks of hot glue floating around inside my pod.The female input for the power adapter is held by 3 weak solder points, which can fail over time and use.This pedal is a nightmare to disassemble if something breaks. Where I live, there is only one tech within at least 80 miles who knows how to work on these things, and it costs a fortune just to have a tech open the thing up.The bottom line is, the X3 Live is a good system, but if you plan on using it for more than a year or two, stuff is going to start breaking due to poor manufacturing, and it's going to be expensive to repair. (it was 60 bucks just to have 1 button re-glued on my unit, and several others are starting to come loose)It's a good choice if you take really good care of your equipment, and are planning to move on to something else in a few years. If not, then I would look elsewhere.

If you try to use this with an amp, it will not sound like it should. I've had mine for 6 months and have searched for something to make it sound like it does in the headphones. I've tried 3 different amps, yes plugging into the aux or return and a pair of monitors. The monitors sounded great, but mine were only 5" so they lacked a little depth for me especially on heavy distortion or drop D. I bought a Fender Passport 150 and it sounds great with the X3. I also use a Line 6 Variax and I can now go from Acoustic, sitar, Drop D Distortion, many more and they all sound fantastic! Again the X3 is fantastic, but only if you use it like it was meant to be(Live through a PA). I give it 5 stars! If it were stolen I would buy another.
