In my music I use a wide variety of analog effects for both guitar and synthesizers, in the last few years I have found the Maxon brand of pedals to be the absolute best by a country mile. I recently had the chance to compare three of the more high end analog 'Phaser' effects side by side, including the "Moog MF-103"(12 stage Phaser), the "A/DA Final Phase"(10 stage Phaser), and the "Maxon PT-9Pro+"(10 stage Phaser).I recommend the Maxon "PT-9 Pro+" over the other two for several reasons. For one thing, the "Feedback" knob in the middle offers a lot of effect on tap, so it's unlikely you will find the effect to be too subtle. I also like the small LED that flashes in time with the "Speed" knob, it makes it easy to set the speed in time with the song you are playing. The "Width" knob features a very wide range, so if you like really wide and spacious phasing, you can do just that, or if you want choppy stuttering tremolo, you can achieve that by lowering the "Width" knob and increasing the "Speed".The most important reason I recommend the Maxon PT-9Pro+ over the 'A/DA Final Phase' and 'Moog MF-3' though is the sheer simplicity that the Maxon offers; using only 3 knobs, you have a wide variety of effects you can achieve: from tremolo, slight chorusing, and of course very deep phasing as well. The 'Moog MF-3' is a convoluted mess of a pedal, and yes, there really CAN be such a thing as too many knobs on an effects pedal, the Moog line of pedals really prove this; they sounds great, but what a confusing mess! The 'A/DA Final Phase' is a nice sounding unit, but bulky, it cannot run on batteries and requires to be plugged in at all times, and again, it seems a bit more complicated than it really needs to be, not to mention the on-board 'overdrive' is unnecessary and gimmicky. Maxon pedals are expensive, but I honestly believe them to be worth their cost. I'm hardly rich, I only use standard guitars and very basic tube amps (like the tweed 5f1 and 5E3 amps) but for what my opinion may be worth, the Maxon effects will help you get much closer to those famous tones you hear on all of your favorite albums, especially the ones from the 70's and 80's and they are always worth saving up for! If you get a chance to try this pedal out in person, I highly recommend that you do. If you would like to hear the PT-9Pro+ on a wide variety of musical instruments, check out some demo's on a website called "modezero".
