By Darren J. Hutchinson
I promise you will not be sorry purchasing this sampling / workstation. Roland once again delivers precision and quality in this keyboard. It gives you complete control over sampling editing and allows you to create an extensive library of sampled and new sounds. Along with its 16 track workstation you get 4 audio sampling tracks that samples 16 bit and 24 bit sounds/instruments. I've owned Roland for years and I'm not a representative for their company. If you study the price of other keyboards, you will learn that others do not offer this much for this price. Treat yourself and your talent and buy this keyboard. Your studio will thank you!

By T. Stepp
Roland has since discontinued the Juno-G, possibly due to the LCD display issues, mine was replaced (quickly) by Roland's service dept at their North American HQ here in Los Angeles. This keyboard/synth/workstation/sampler does everything, and it is one of a kind because the replacement synths/workstations offered today are limited in scope. So if you can find one of these, go for it. 16 wave/midi tracks, 4 audio tracks, includes version 2.0 with sampling. A large instruction book that was most likely written by a technical writer/engineer, and not very intuitive. Fortunately Roland realized this and you can still download the PDF's on their website for easy set up and start instruction.I strongly recommend getting the $30 instruction DVD by David Wills, who does an excellent job of going step by step and showing you how to use this monster. This is not a toy you give a 5 year old. Do not recommend wearing headsets when first starting, or at the very least keep the volume low, this unit as with any Roland synth, can easily damage your hearing when experimenting with sounds. M40 amp (I forget the mfr) is a good amp to start with, ran me about $100, also doubles as great pc/mac speakers. Sustain peddle comes with it, if you want, you can add a controller peddle (start/stop, octave control, etc). There is a fantastic bunch of guys and gals at the roland clan forum that are there to answer your questions, so any Roland you purchase you will get years and years of use from. One downside, you must add 512mb of memory otherwise you won't be able to record much with it, you will also need to add a compact flash adapter (pcmcia then perhaps a 512mb card) which is old (but very very reliable) technology so I can see why Roland chose to go with the sturdier compact flash. So let's talk costs..maybe $800 for the machine, add $50 for the 512mb memory, and $30 for the DVD instruction to start with, and probably $30 for the CF adapter/CF card you can use cheap headsets, but may want to add speakers later. If money is tight at the very least get the memory.Great instrument, comes with over 1,000 patches/sounds which you can modify to thousands of other sounds. It runs the classic fantom soundset, you can add an srx module, I have the Orchestra which adds an additional 800 patches/sounds. The detail in sound manipulation is stunning. So why would someone buy a higher end workstation? The Juno-G is limited in its ability to apply effects to tracks giving you 3 effects you can apply to an entire song, but when thinking about it, it would be rare and downright odd if you were to do so unless you're writing a massive orchestral piece that requires that sort of manipulation that can best be done ported over to a software based DAW.Overall for those buying this, I don't think you'll regret it, I have not seen a machine that comes close to what this does.
