Star Wars Gold Squadron Y-Wing Fighter With Pilot and Droid Product Description:

  • Gold Squadron Y-Wing Fighter With Pilot & Droid

Product Description

This Star Wars Gold Squadron Y-Wing Fighter features a swiveling gun, a canopy that opens and closes, fold-up landing gear, a Y-Wing Pilot figure, and an R5-F7 Droid. Y-wing starfighters are powerful vessels in the Rebel Alliance fleet, with ample firepower that includes laser cannons and proton torpedoes. The Rebel forces make do with whatever vehicles they can obtain, and the sturdy Y-wing is a good fighter for them because it can withstand heavy attack and still remain space-worthy. During the Battle of Yavin, Y-wing fighters fend off Imperial fighters to clear a path for the Rebels to reach the Death Star's vulnerable exhaust port. Rebel pilot Lieutenant Lepira flies Gold Four, the point Y-wing for Gold Squadron at the Battle of Yavin, but is shot down during that pivotal battle. Rule the galaxy or at least your bedroom! with this detailed Y-wing Fighter vehicle. As seen in the Star Wars film A New Hope, this vehicle features fold-up landing gear and a canopy that opens and closes! Press the button to drop a bomb and stage your own battle scenes with the R5-D7 droid figure and Y-wing pilot figure that fits inside!

5An expanded universe vehicle
By Brett W. Fraser
A nice update to the original ROTJ vintage vehicle. The longer canons are an improvement. But the rear landing gear still suffers from long term sag when left down, use a support under the rear of the vehicle when displaying gear down. The mold for this vehicle is the same size as the original vehicle, not quite large enough to match the scale of the 3.75" figures. The Y-Wing still has a permanent droid dome attached (the newer TVC Y-Wing adds a droid slot along with an updated cockpit) just like the POTF2 Y-Wing, but this time has an R5 droid. The figure is Lt Lepira, who is one of the pilots seen seated in the row in front of Luke and (fake) Wedge during the briefing. The pilot is the only part of the set that is screen accurate to ANH. The helmet, droid and Y-Wing do not match any of the props from the movie. Hasbro pretty much made them all up. The paint scheme on the Y-Wing is similar to the Gold 3 studio scale model (which is often seen on the Magic of Myth tour), while the paint job on the droid is similar to R5 units from the prequel trilogy. The helmet may be based on the POTF2 Y-Wing figure's helmet, as the helmet prop that the actor would have had would be the standard plain blue insignia helmet seen on multiple pilots. The R5 antennas are the easiest items to loose, especially while unpacking the set (I lost one almost immediately and had to crawl around the floor to find it) so take them off and set them aside before starting on the twist cords on the ship.

4The best Y-Wing so far.
By M. Chevalier
I would say that this may be the best Y-Wing released so far. The mold is great and is largely based on the original Return Of The Jedi mold. The paint job is cool with its semi weathered look. Another great addition is the pilot and astromech, I think this is the only Y-Wing release where both are included. If there would have been some electronic sounds added, this Y-Wing would be over the top. Great pick up if you can find it under $50, any more than that, then I guess its all about how badly you want this in your collection.
