After going through a cheaper bag (all the sand and filling settled on the bottom making it dangerously solid) I went on the hunt for something else. I'm about 270, and I needed a big bag that could stand up to both punches and kicks. This seemed to fit the bill, but I never worked out on a water bag. I gambled and got this through Amazon (via Sportsmans guide). It's a VERY simple design, and I honestly can't see how it would ever break down. The "core" is a big heavy gauge plastic cylinder with a screw top; it's about the size of a small scuba tank. There is one layer of very dense uniform foam around this, and that's it. The cover is a little slick, but it too looks bombproof. Word to the wise: IF YOU GET A BAG LIKE THIS, DON'T FILL THE CORE TO THE VERY TIPPY TOP, WHEN YOU STRIKE THE BAG THE CORE COMPRESSES AND THE WATER HAS NO PLACE TO GO AND YOU COULD CONCEIVABLY CAUSE A RUPTURE. You only have to leave three inches or so to guarantee no problem. As far as working out on it, I like it. It is a little different from a traditional bag. Whereas a traditional bag feels more like "dead" weight, this bag has quite a bit of "life" to it. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but different. The best part of this bag is knowing that each impact is a little less jarring and virtually any spot you hit the bag (with the exception of the very top and very bottom) has uniform resistance. All in all, I expect this to be the last heavy bag I'll ever need to own, there will always be others in the gym though ;-) {{this review is for the 120lb XL, but the 80?lb L is identical in design}}

By Confounded Consumer
I've been using traditional heavy bags for years, and ran into the same problem: the filling ultimately settles, and you end up with what feels like a petrified tree. The Hydrocore, on the other hand, has a heavy gauge plastic core that you fill with water to give it the variable amount of weight you want, surrounded by a thick high-density foam, which never settles, solidifies, or becomes an issue. So, the feel, and response of the bag is consistent over years (I've been using it approximately three years). Additionally, since the outer core is foam, it has give, and (in my humble opinion) a more lifelike feel and reaction. Another plus is that it's a double ended bag, so you can tie it down from the bottom, and restrict it's movement, which I've always appreciated when delivering combos, and kicks. I've had it for over three years, and I've clocked quite a few hours/week on it regularly, and it has yet to show any heavy wear or abuse. So, it gets a thumbs up for durability. I give it five stars, since I couldn't find an appreciable downside on this bag.

By aikinut1
I am a six foot 210 pound fourth degree black belt and have been using a water core bag for over twenty years. I have heavy kicks and punches and even use it for stick training. I lost the cap during a move, and being tired of improvising, finally broke down and ordered this bag. I had the same problem as the above reviews with traditional bags in the past, and loved my water core bag; however, my old bag had a plastic/rubber style bladder core which allowed a nice body feel and give to it. This bag has a POLYETHYLENE or hard plastic core. This is probably so that there's less chance of rupture, but the buyer should be warned this has yet a different feel to it. It still feels better than the traditional bag, and I do enjoy using it but if you're expecting the old bladder type core be warned this is a different bag with a different feel to it. Still a good bag though.
