By Gregory H. Allwine
The Tilley hats are a bit pricey, but definitely worth it. The hat makes a huge difference when working in the sun. Recently, we did a landscaping project and the temperatures were hot and the sun oppressive, so the whole family was wearing the Tilley T4 hats. I suspect that we'll get many years of use out of these well made hats. We'll definitely be taking these hats on our annual hiking trip in Maine.

I've had the T4 for a several years now. It's an excellent choice for any outdoor activities. It's comfortable and keeps the sun off. It crunches up nicely when necessary and stays flat when not worn. For especially hot days, a more ventilated model might be preferrable. As a bonus, these things fly very nicely and make wonderful emergency frisbees for dogs who are well trained enough to hand it back without chewing on it. I had played frisbee with it in a muddy field and when I got home, I popped it in the washer like the label says.So I am removing a star because after washing it, the only time I did so, it shrank on me enough to need to be replaced. With an chronic arm injury, I just don't have the strength in it to stretch the hat back to size. But I'd think few would probably find themselves with such a muddy hat to begin with. I don't remember if I used warm or cold, but I did air dry it. So I keep it in the car now as a spare.I ended up replacing it with a T3 in the next size up and only then realized the difference of the wider brim on the T4. I definitely prefer the T4, though both fly the same for the dog. The new size seems very loose in comparison. But washing it after the next muddy frisbee game should fix that nicely....

By Frank A. Whorton
This was my third Tilley hat purchased and the first made of "cotton duck" material. I ordered it on Amazon, but this stock model and size was available only through a third-party retailer. Free shipping and free returns sold me on ordering the hat. It arrived well packed and gorgeous-looking, but without the cool curve like my other hats have or the dude in the picture has...if anyone knows the "shaping" secret, please let me know. This T4 model is a bit heavier than my LTM6 and T4MO models...if you can imagine sailcloth, this is the stuff. The crown actually is noticeable lower than my other models - the top of my head is always in contact with the top. For this reason, this hat is warmer in hotter weather, but perfect for the 50-75F sunny spring days that can still sunburn your face and head. The wind and chin cords insure you won't lose this hat to the wind (provided you fasten them when it is windy), but if you forget and it blows into the water..she floats. If somehow, you still lose it, within the first 2 years they'll replace it for 50% price, provided you mailed in the registration card to Tilley Endurables! Should you still have reservations and not believe all the positive reviews...order one and see for yourself...the shipping and return offer make it a risk-free proposition. If you do fall in love with your Tilley hats like I have and you love it so much it wears out, Tilley Endurables promises to replace it free of charge except for postage (again...mail in that registration card). What's not to love?
