By B. C. Murray
Made in the USA! This is a very well made bag. It is my "go bag" for a variety of activities. I like the vertical holders sew into the two outside pockets. They hold a small first aid kit, flashlight, sunscreen and multitool. End pockets are just right for a water bottle. It isn't shown well in the photo, but at the base of each handle is a slit/pocket that the handle can disapear into when not in use. This bag should last a lifetime.... I want to note that the bag is heavy when empty due to the thickness of the fabric. For smaller framed owners that might be a problem. The leather strap was a bit stiff at first but some leather conditioner softened it up. The leather pad on the strap also tends to slip off of my shoulder.

By Patrick McGuire
I bought this Filson bag to be my daily work carry-all, and was going to use it in place of my current bag - a $70 excellent but unexciting High Sierra backpack. As it turns out, even though the two appear to be roughly the same size overall, and therefore one would think roughly equal in interior volume, I just couldn't fit my usual daily load into the Filson. Perhaps if it was much more beaten up and well-used, after few years' worth of daily usage with lots of items inside, the ultra-stiff material would be relaxed enough to pack more things in there; but as it stands I still use the backpack. Also, the leather shoulder strap is so stiff when new (it is very nice, well-made bridle leather, excellent) you can't even really use it if the bag doesn't have enough weight to it - the strap doesn't bend enough at first to even wrap over your shoulder and just slides off. Not to mention that if you are, in fact, carrying something relatively heavy in the bag the strap quickly becomes uncomfortable. You can easily pack items into this super-strong bag that are much heavier than you'd actually want to carry via just the shoulder strap. Now, these aren't necessarily criticisms of the bag, just warnings on how it comes when new and some considerations to make when selecting this one versus say another Filson. I just need to find another use for it, which takes advantage of it's exceptional quality and durability. I'm planning to convert it to a saddlebag of sorts when I get a motorcycle in the near future; it's toughness and water-resistant construction should make it a great (and great-looking) addition to a cruiser.
