I dropped down from the stiffer T-Race, which I'd relied up for years to support my weight (250 pounds) and power, to take advantage of this boot's walk-mode option, because I love making laps in the back-country as much as I do blasting through inbounds trees and crud. Looks like the new T-Race as walk-mode again, but no need to upgrade from this beast. With the switch, I've noticed no loss in power, and in fact am appreciating the boots' new foot-bedless design: Rather than a separate insole to bake and mold, the liners are now designed with a thicker base so there's no shortage of padding, while at the same time crucial ankle angulations made on the fly transfer first to the performance fitting, heat-molded liner, customized and cozied up to my foot exactly, and then straight to the shell for better response than ever.... the tight trees thank me for not snapping off quite as many limbs with the improved response. MY limbs thank me, too. Also, feet rest a little lower in the shell from my experience, keeping my oddly-dainty ankles nearer the business end of the boot for better edge control. Liners are equipped with top loops on both sides for cinching tightly around the calves before the buckle crank down...Yet another smart move from Scarpa. Buckles operate smoothly, are bomb proof still, and look cool as hell. My only suggestion to Scarpa is to go with a triple density plastic on the medial shell exterior....edge scraping is almost digging into the cable strap. Otherwise, a big bravo from this big dude!
