5Amazing Little Invention

I can't recommend the Stresseraser highly enough. I bought it because I sometimes have trouble sleeping and have high blood pressure. I have had it six months and use it twice a day: when I wake up and just before I go to sleep. When I insert my finger in the side of the unit my breathing is all over the place. After a few minutes it begins to smooth out and eventually is very regular. For the rest of the day I have more energy and react more calmly to the events of work and home.I've become very interested in how this works and can't find a lot of information. Certainly, it is very close to yoga and meditation techniques. But I find it easier to use and it helps me focus more quickly. They've kind of turned it into a video game by awarding points for the right type of breathing. It takes me about 8 minutes to earn the 30 points necessary to produce a relaxing result. I try to do about 100 points a day.Here's another interesting little tip: the stresseraser is great for golf. I use it before every round. It helps my mind stay connected during my swing rather than just kind of blacking out halfway through.I think this thing is revolutionary and worth every penny you spend on it. But one little note of caution, you still have to sit down, be still and use it. If you're always on the phone, always with one eye on TV or email, it can't do the impossible. But if you give it a chance, maybe it will help you become a more relaxed and effective person.

4Better than meditation

Even after a couple of decades of sincere effort, I suck at meditation. (Let's face it: my breathing is no competition for whatever Potential Threats my imagination may come up with). I was hoping the StressEraser would 1) help me remember to focus on my breathing and 2) teach me what a quality exhale feels like. I am very satisfied with how it's helped me with those goals. In addition, I have found that, even without the gadget, I am remembering to breathe throughout the day.It also gives me something constructive to do when I first wake up in the middle of the night. Doesn't put me back to sleep any sooner, yet, but at least it gives me something else to focus on besides whatever it is I'm obsessing about--and I get in a session of good breathing.I'm playing around with it. I did a small experiment. I held the StressEraser and meditated as I usually do--70 breaths--without looking at the feedback from the StressEraser. Then I did 70 breaths while looking at the feedback. The quality of my breathing looking at the feedback was 23% higher than when I was meditating without looking at the feedback. It may have been I was already starting to relax by the time I did the StressEraser session because I had just meditated, so I'll have to experiment a bit more. I'd also like to see if results are different before and after exercising, before and after eating, and with and without mantras and visualization.I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it's a bit touchy: it might not work if one's fingers are cold, if one is sitting in sunlight, and a couple of other factors. But there are two sides to the touchiness coin: the amazing fact that it can sense and display minute changes in pulse is the other side. Also, all the factors can be addressed: running hands under warm water, or changing location, for example. Some reviewers have said they had difficulties using it in bed. I have no problem with that at all, face up or on my side.Just sit still, rest your finger on the sensor lightly, exhale slowly, and give yourself five minutes to train yourself how to breathe.It's a biofeedback tool that runs on two AAA batteries. You put your finger on an infra-red light sensor. The screen signals when you should exhale, displays tiny changes in your pulse, then gives you 1 point, 1/2 point, or 0 points, based on how the exhale affected your pulse (which, if I understand the science of it correctly, reflects the degree to which your parasympathetic nervous system was engaged). It records the number of points you have accumulated by session and over the course of the day.

4Very Simple

This product is very simple and easy to operate...You can intuitively work with it after only a couple of tries, and it does make you feel calmer...it seems to take longer to use each day than advertised, but I suspect the sessions get shorter as they get more efficient.
