Best mechanical disc brake available so far, installation should be easy if you know how general disk brakes work. Very adjustable and good looking too, I use it on my commute bike (a hybrid mtb) to college and it did an excellent job.

By D. Rodrigues
My bike originally came with Avid's BB5 brakes and I'm afraid I'm not a big fan of the BB5's. Please do yourself a favor and either select a bike with the BB7's or upgrade to BB7's when possible. In all respects the BB7 is a superior product. It's well engineered and the manufacturing quality seems to be a very high level. One nice thing is that they include several different types of mounting brackets in the kit so you can work with a variety of frames and still get you brakes on without having to special order additional mounting hardware. As the other reviewer noted, run a search for installation and adjusting videos, which will be much more helpful than the included instruction sheet. One comment about the instructions, get yourself a magnifying glass as the print is super small and hard to read. Once mounted and adjusted I found these brakes to give smooth and controlled stopping power. I does not hurt that they are very cool looking. Included in the kit is a small Torx driver. I recommend keeping it with your bike as turning the inboard adjuster knob is not that easy with you bare fingers. The little Torx tool makes it much easier to adjust if you are out on the road and need to make an adjustment to the inboard pad. The outboard pad is easy to adjust. Also, installing these brakes is fairly easy but you will need a torque wrench to do the job correctly.

By Luke
Easy DIY upgrade to most bikes. This is my first set of discs on an older bike and the install was easy, initial adjustment was easy and these things stop great with little arm fatigue.
