1FoodSaver is not a reliable product
By Wyatt Allbright
I rate this item zero stars, but Amazon doesn't provide that option. My purchase of this unit marks the second one in as many months that I'll have to return. The first was never completely assembled, and arrived with parts shaking around loose inside the case. Needless to say, it didn't function and had to be returned. The second unit doesn't turn off the vacuum until long after the package has been evacuated, then the seal doesn't hold. Not worth the hassle of processing returns until we finally get one that works as advertised... and then, for how long?

5Couldn't live without it!
By Janis
I have a very similar model but in white. It is my second Food Saver and I've already had it for several years. The first one lasted MANY years and saved us a ton of money. Used effectively the savings will pay for the unit in a VERY short period of time.If you're reading reviews to help determine which model to buy or need more useful tips for using one you already have...1. The flat machines take up more counter space than the uprights but don't look like behemoths sitting on the counter, which the uprights do. They are easier to use because you don't have to depend on the bag sensors, just one more unnecessary thing to break down.2. If you're reusing a bag, they do tend to curl on the edges. They also tend to curl a bit near the end of a roll. With an upright this makes the bags difficult to feed into the machine while the flat units allow you access to the channels so you can easily tuck them in. This is also helpful if you cut the bag a bit too short.3. Make sure you get a unit with a hose attachment and buy the wide-mouth jar attachment, plus a regular canning funnel. Stock up on canning jars of all sizes. The half-gallon is sometimes difficult to find but extremely useful. You can use the jars for anything that goes into the refrigerator so with a one-time investment you will save a small fortune over the price of the bags.We use jars to store grapes, berries (toweling at bottom of jar), cut up cantaloupe, cut up pineapple, cheese, beef sticks, leftover dips/spreads, cut up salad greens/vegetables, etc. I even use them to marinate smaller pieces of meat or chicken.I usually have at least 6 jars in the refrigerator at all times and it's so easy to see the contents, not to mention that the used jars go right into the dishwasher. A real plus is that the jars are much easier to fill and work with than the bags.4. Once you've had the unit for quite awhile and it doesn't want to switch from vacuum to seal, simply remove the gaskets and turn them over. Whaala.. It's like new again. In some cases you might want to hand wash them to refresh them. No need to rush off and order new ones.5. Keep it on the counter or you won't use it. We use ours several times daily.6. One last tip... I use bags only for freezer use. I always double seal, meaning vacuum/seal and then pull the bag out a bit and seal again. This gives me a great area to write what's in the bag and is helpful for those rare occasions when you have a seal failure. If you're even thinking about getting a Flavor Saver... don't think twice. Freezer burn and moldy cheese will no longer be part of your life and you'll be shocked that things like beef, chicken and fish will keep perfectly fine for years in your freezer. You'll wonder how you lived without it.

5So Far, So Good
By Amy Starr
I bought this at a local Target store where it was on sale for $88.00. But I didn't order replacement rolls until today because I wanted to make sure the unit worked well and I could operate it successfully.I carefully read the accompanying tips and instructions and found it worked well to slightly freeze the meat first so no juice would be sucked up during the vacuum process. Since I've never been good at cutting straight lines, I used one of its gallon bags as a template for creating new ones. The unit performed flawlessly, has a nice design, and its function buttons are well laid out. It's a great concept and one I expect will eliminate a lot of wasted food at home.
