5No more getting locked out
By Bill Kearney
These are a breeze to install. If you've already got a Schlage handle you can swap out this for the existing one without having to change the mortise hardware AT ALL. Just remove the old handles and put these in it's place. That's what I did on three of my doors, it literally took no more than 10 minutes to do the job. From a usability standpoint they're excellent. You lock the door as usual from the inside by turning the knob to a horizonal (-) position. The outside handle won't open the door unless you enter the code. It automatically re-locks the door in a few seconds. If you leave the inside lock knob in the vertical (|) position then it, of course, stays unlocked. To unlock you just press the (schlage) button on the keypad (this lights the keypad) and enter the code. The lock makes a slight 'snik' noise and it's unlocked. Once you close the door it automatically locks again. No more walking out the back door to empty the trash and get myself locked out. Now I can just tap in the code. These are very well made. They're a good bit heavier grade than the regular Schlage ones I removed. But they fit right into the same opening in the door. Is this convenience worth the price? Seeing as I how picked mine up at 40% during the Expo Center closing sale, I'd have to say "of course!" But even at regular street prices these are excellent quality lock sets (for residential stuff). The keypad convenience is a price premium, but well worth it the first time you walk out in the cold, in bare feet, without your keys...

2Nice lock, terrible customer service
By mrmac
I own several rental houses near the beach and have this or a similar Schlage lock installed in each of them. The good: they work well (when they work) but don't hold up well in the humid ocean air. I just bought a new one to replace one that is just a little older than a year.As for the customer service issue, I just bought the lock which had a clearly defective handle on it. It does not have a pin hole where it is supposed to and it will not engage and hold in place correctly. On the installation instructions they specifically tell you if there is a problem "do not return it to the store" but to call customer service. Well I called and after waiting a 1/2 hr gave up. I put it aside and tried calling again a few days later. They told me to return it to the store. Of course I already spent some time programming the lock and will have to start over with that. I asked if they could just ship me a replacement handle. They said yes, but it would take 10-14 days. Wow! They have a clear manufacturing error and they can't send me a part right out.Issue #2 The lock has a lifetime warranty on mechanical parts. Unfortunately on the coast the electronics seem to give out in a little over a year. They say they test the lock for extremes of temperature but apparently not for humidity. I do believe there are inexpensive processes they could coat the electronics with to make them hold up better. I will be sending a query off to their tech support to see how they respond to that.Again, I may be a bit harsh in my 2 star appraisal, but I do believe there are some issues that need to be addressed.

5Great Product
By JohnDarl
My wife wanted one of these locks and talked me into buying one. Since then I have purchaced 10 more of this type of Schlege locks. Everyone who sees or uses it wants one. I had one on a summer house I sold and that gentleman bought this lock for his other house. We gave one to each of our 3 kids and they love them. I bought one for a friend who drove 6 hours to his vacation home in Maine and locked himself out and had to break a window. These locks look good, program easily, and are very convenient. You can add and subtract codes at any time. My only warning is if you buy one you'll want more if you have multiple doors you use on a regular basis. Also, you can buy this lock at Lowes for the same price as on line.
